Dr. Warner's Perspective

This definition of holistic medicine, adopted by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, epitomizes Dr. Warner's belief about what constitutes good medicine:

Holistic Medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses care of the whole person - body, mind, and spirit. The practice of holistic medicine integrates conventional and complementary therapies to promote optimal health and to prevent and treat disease by mitigating causes. Holistic medicine is based on the belief that unconditional love is life's most powerful healer.

Getting to Know Dr. Wendy Warner

Although Medicine in Balance was founded in 2004, it is somewhat difficult to pinpoint exactly when Dr Warner began practicing Holistic Medicine. After undergraduate study and medical school at the University of Tennessee, she completed a conventional residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. After beginning private practice in Bucks County, PA in 1990, she began searching for a more complete way of managing chronic conditions and healing her patients and herself. Throughout her 14 years in a general ObGyn practice, she was the only physician in the practice who incorporated integrative holistic medicine and actively spent time teaching patients about holistic medicine and nutrition.

Dr Warner focused her early study of holistic medicine on botanicals, learning from nationally known professional herbalists and early physician pioneers such as Dr Andrew Weil. She also has a strong interest in Energy medicine, which led her to become a Master Reiki practitioner. In addition, she began incorporating yoga and meditation into her own daily life.

Over time, she became involved with the American Holistic Medical Association as well as the American Board of Holistic Medicine. The board is the organization which certifies physicians nation wide in Holistic Medicine; Dr Warner was asked to join the board of directors and serve on its teaching faculty. She has been actively teaching other physicians since 2002. In 2007, she was elected President of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. Her involvement with the board not only allows her to share her expertise with other physicians interested in this type of practice but also helps her continue to develop her skills through exposure to some of the brightest physicians in this field.

In addition to her private practice, Dr Warner has been the Medical Director of the Holistic Center at St Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA as well as the Chair of the ObGyn departments at Lower Bucks Hospital and St Mary Medical Center, both in Bucks County, PA. She has appeared on "The Dr Oz Show" and is often sought out by national journalists for comments and opinions. She has produced a DVD called Menopause: It's all about Choices, for use by the public and has contributed chapters Boosting your Immunity for Dummiesto a textbook on complementary alternative medicine. Dr Warner is also the coauthor of the new book "Boosting Your Immunity for Dummies". Dr Warner is board certified in both Obstetrics/Gynecology and Holistic Medicine.
